Health has always been an important issue in this world. Obesity, high blood pressure and diabetes are some of the health problems that one may suffer due to paying less attention to their health. There are ways where we can avoid them. One of the ways would be having a healthier meal. Here are 5 tips on how you can prepare your very own healthier meal.
White to Brown!
Instead of using white rice/ white pasta/ white bread, try changing to whole-wheat products! Brown rice, pasta and flour are healthier because of its nutritive value and its high fibre intake. Even if you’re not a big fan of whole-wheat, you can try mixing both white and brown rice so that it gives a different flavour, yet still retaining a high nutritive value!
Change your cooking method!
Stir-frying, grilling, baking and steaming are various healthier cooking methods as compared to deep-frying and pan-frying. This is because they use less oil. Grilling chicken instead of deep-frying is better because you’ll cut down intake on oil as well as retaining the nutrients in the food.
Swap from normal cooking oil to vegetable oil!
Vegetable oil is a healthier alternative because they contain lower fat concentration as compared to normal cooking oil. Vegetable oil (E.g. olive oil) is healthier because it decreases the risks of suffering from coronary diseases and different types of cancers
Replace salt and sauces with spices to add flavour to your food. Spices have a natural flavour and do not add to your sodium intake, thus making it a healthier (and possibly more flavourful) experience! Using spices also has potential health benefits; for example, using cinnamon helps to control blood sugar level – as well as make your dish tastier!
Change your dairy products!
Milk, cheese and even butter all have a healthier alternative: non-fat milk, low-fat cheese and unsalted butter! Choose products with the healthier choice label or even change the recipes! Use non-fat milk instead of coconut milk for your bowl of Laksa, or if you’re drinking milk alone, why not try Soya milk instead!
Do try out these tips and you are definitely on your way to leading a healthy lifestyle. Remember, it is your choice. Only you can make the difference!
